After the Harlem Book Fair in July, 2007, the Sankofa Literary Society conducted a survey on MySpace, EDC Creations'- Yahoo 360 blog and through our vast email database, to determine who actually visited our sites, read our email blasts, and really read our newsletters. Here are our findings:
- Visitors are 90% women, 89% college educated, 70% aged 25-55, 30% and over the age of 55.
- 60% are active book club members, 35% belong to two or more online clubs or readers' groups, 10% are librarians or booksellers.
- 90% have bought products or services online, 40% of our viewers post comments on Amazon and other online blogs.
Sankofa Literary Society's visitors are avid readers (80%, read 4+ books each month). Frequent readers tend to be open to new ideas. They're thoughtful, inventive, focused and ambitious, and actively involved in the world around them. They're opinion formers and decision makers. These are the people who create bestsellers, mostly book clubs and reader's groups. The Sankofa Literary Society would like to applaud all book clubs, reader's groups, and self-published authors who are creating an Impact in Literature today!
The Sankofa Literary Society posts and sister networks use RSS feeds to syndicate all our news and events. We are currently broadcasting our material to 130+ directories and social networks.
What is SLS Podcast Audio Magazine all about?
We created the SLS Podcast Audio Magazine to give our listeners the chance to hear directly from the authors and musicians whose products we want to promote. Our goal is to give listeners a behind the scenes view of today's popular books and music, as well as letting you preview new artists and authors we really like. Our clients record a 30-60 minute "commercial" detailing their latest ventures; book clubs can now post their reviews in audio and print; writers can present their work and essays in audio that can be downloaded by our listen audience. What is a Podcast?
What if you could listen to excerpts from great books, hear authors talk about and read from their works, and learn about special offers and events -- all from the privacy of your computer or portable media player? Thanks to the advent of podcasting, all that is possible. The word "Podcast" is a combination of the words iPod and broadcast. It's essentially a web broadcast, delivered straight to your computer or media player, for you to listen to as you like. At Sankofa Literary Society we also make our podcasts available to you through our website. You can use the links on the right, to listen online, at any time.
A Podcast is a downloadable audio file—most often music, news, talk, interviews—that you can download at will or subscribe to using Podcast catching software like iTunes. Think of it as a radio show, without interruptions or commercials, which you can download and listen to at your leisure. The Podcasting is a way of making digital audio files available for download via the Internet using an automatic "feed," often called RSS, or Real Simple Syndication. To get started, all you need to do is acquire the necessary Podcast subscription software (such as Apple's iTunes, Odeo, or iPodder).
The audio files you choose to download can then be played back on your computer or transferred to a portable device -- for playback anywhere, at any time. The SLS Podcast Audio Magazine is your launching pad for downloading our new podcasts and learning about upcoming podcasts -- including exclusive audio content you won't be able to hear anywhere else.
So, how do I get the Podcast?
There are two ways you can be sure not to miss our Podcast:
1. You can preview podcasts by clicking the "Download this Podcast (MP3)" links below. Doing so will download the Podcast or open the show MP3 file, depending on your computer's configuration.
2. The best way is to subscribe using "podcatching" software like Apple's iTunes, FireAnt, or others. That way, as new podcasts are posted, they will be automatically delivered to your computer and you can listen at your convenience. Once you've installed a podcatcher, you can use the links on the right to subscribe to the Podcast.

The Sankofa Literary Society is not just a website, but a thriving and growing community of like minded individuals and community leaders who are putting their plans into action. Each week the Sankofa Literary Society receives a mass of book reviews, feed back messages, ideas and other information from its visitors. Out of this feedback came the opportunity and idea to further encourage and support this community be publishing a monthly interview with a book club.
