What is the Enigma that Is
Twisted Goddess?
Rolling Out Magazine States “………. brings a fusion of rock, funk, jazz. Blues and soul to create a sound that is familiarly engaging, yet to original to compare to any former or current group”.
Magical, mystical timeless and raw are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the three-time Amateur Night At The Apollo winner known then as Tina Camara. At that time the self-proclaimed cover-tune queen captured the hearts of the producers of the show, who invited her to be the opening act for the legendary George Clinton and the P-Funk All-stars. The event was called the “Classic and Future Legend Concert Series” which was being held to raise money for the renovation of the Apollo Theatre.
Bitten by the bug of the national music scene, Tina began her professional journey as a background vocalist for Underground Alternative Soul Artist “Linni”. During that time she had found her niche…..Funk Rock……
During a concert A fan witnessed her live performance and made a comment about her earthy and soulful nature and how her voice had the ability to heal, nurture and touch people to the bone which is a much needed the these times of musical un-imagination. Thus, spawned the title “EarthQueen". As the music evolved, Tina along with Stephanie Dodson, Daryl Braxton and Phillip Taylor formed the band (now known as “Twisted Goddess”.
Twisted Goddess echoes the era of Mother’s Finest, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Betty Davis and Parliament Funkadelic. She brings back to life the souls of Blues and Rock legends Bessie Smith, Chuck Berry and Sly and the Family Stone. They recognize that the legend of great musicians must live on and has been charged to ensure that world does not forget this important legacy. Twisted Goddess brings raw emotion and high energy to thumping bass lines, excruciating cosmic/galactic guitar, spiritual real life lyrics sitting in the seat of a serious pocket.
Drummer, Stephanie “Ginger Rose” Dodson is a heavy hittin’ sista’ who lays down the foundation, Bass extraordinaire, who’s influence is (Yes, no other than Larry Graham) Darryl “D6” Braxton, Gives the bass guitar a serious beat down. Guitar God, Phillip “Alchemystic” Taylor (who in his own right can be considered rock royalty, join her in the mission to elevate the souls and free the minds of the people.
So again it is asked…. What is the enigma that is Twisted Goddess?……..Is it the magic behind their ever-changing funk? Or the mystic force behind their groovalistic soul that defines an eclectic sound? It’s wicked…Attempts to decipher these sounds of brutal elegance were unsuccessfully…But take a chance and enter a world that can only be defined as “Twisted Goddess”.
