Darrell A. Cador Author Interview
When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing back in 1999 during the infamous Y2K scare after bringing home several computers that were believed to be Non Y2K compliant. My wife Jacqueline then stated that, "This would've been great to have for those short story homework assignments I had to turn in back in high school." As soon as she said 'short story' I thought to myself, '...man, that sounds like fun.'
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
In all honesty I never considered applying the title until after hearing my oldest daughter say after viewing the proof for When Seasons Change, "My dad is an author!"
What inspired you to write your first book?
After reading several of my short pieces my wife suggested that I extend a few of them. The next short piece piece in the pipeline is what eventually became When Seasons Change.
Who or what has influenced your writing?
There's a saying that goes, Hollywood imitates life. As an author I feel that Literature follows a similar path.
How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
It's funny you ask because, in all honesty, my life, then and now, is rather plain so for me to craft works based on such would be a disservice to the reader. (It's okay to laugh.) Because of this I lean heavily on the creative side of the brain to generate stories of interest.
What genre are you most comfortable writing?
Within the AA Fiction category I'm really at home writing Contemporary Romance.
How did you come up with the title?
I usually play with a few different titles and simply go with the one that sticks.
Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
If I had to answer that I'd simply say (and this is for the male readers) regarding the male / female ratio, don't judge a book by its cover, pun intended. What may seem like an advantage in your favor today could very well be in her favor tomorrow.
How much of the book is realistic?
Although statistics prove otherwise, men outnumbering women on the social and dating scene is a very believable possibility, and one that A Good Woman Is Hard To Find poses with great imagination and accuracy.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
No. I just thought that it would be fun to craft a story that showed how men would react to a male / female ratio that highly favored women.
